You Have A Great Idea, Now What?
If you need to raise funding from Angel Investors or VCs for your startup or to grow a small business, the first step is to create a pitch deck. Well, after step zero, which is to have a great idea.
A pitch deck, what’s a pitch deck? A pitch deck is a brief Powerpoint or Keynote presentation that provides the audience with an overview of your business.
For the purpose of funding, it gives potential investors a brief idea of what your business is about, who your target audience is, and other relevant information that will help convince them to write you a check.
It is an essential fundraising tool, whether you’re looking to raise $50,000, $500,000 or $50 million.
Do not risk alienating potential investors with an incomplete, unfocused, or uncomprehensive presentation.
Creating a pitch deck is not an easy task. If you’ve never done it before and you’re a first-time entrepreneur, it can be incredibly daunting.
Think of it this way. Your Business Plan has a few thousand words, lots of descriptions of every aspect of your idea, and probably a significant look into your financial projections. Pitch decks are the opposite. Successful pitch decks might have 100-200 of the most carefully chosen words you will ever write on only 8-10 slides! You will be presenting to people who have seen hundreds of presentations; they are very smart and your time with them will be microscopic. They want to know exactly what you want to do and how much money they are going to make. And you need to blow them away.
It needs to be deep, smart, focused, and well designed.
